This is another album from my recent dive into the music archives. These were the early and more formative days in our recording process. Lots of lessons learned but the passion is there for sure and with Akil so is the message.

Akil has always been ahead of his time and in tune with the direction of things to come. This was his first musical offering to the world and lit the fire within as he was involved in every aspect of creating this album.

Recorded mostly in the Inglewood Mansion and Greenville Ave home studios, this album's recordings predate the digital era at least for us. I was still using a Tascam 8-track recorder and hauling it everywhere I could to capture what we were up to. We were hungry and resilient, finding ways to connect with musicians that we had known from past and present. Bebo 6 and I had also been doing music with an electronic / rock band called Peng, allowing us an opportunity to connect with the band's talented multi-instrumentalist and leader Tony Ringor. Tony laces up several tracks on the album with his signature Spanish style and other amazing guitar riffs and melodies. While visiting with Elementary School friend Marcus Mathis, I found out that he had been playing keys for a while. So we brought him in to do the solo keys on the alternate version of Rude Boy. Last but not least connected with another Elementary School friend Allakoi Peete, now known as Mic Holden to the masses. Al is a wizard on percussion and lays it down on Evilustrious.

Never known to sit back and go with the flow completely, this album saw Akil try his hand at production and arrangement. Enemy at the Gates, Devil's Playground and Subliminal Suggestions are all the brainchild of Mr. Lewis, with maybe a few sparse elements coming from Bebo and myself.

Akil and I give thanks to our parents in both households for allowing this creative process to happen within their walls. So many different people coming by and insane re-arrangements of furniture to make things work.

Naw Go Wicked is a deep album conceptually. Akil is making the statement that regardless of what's going on and what he's been through he "Naw Go Wicked."
