about

Finally some new music from the Armchair Generals camp! Out of quarantine and a dyer state of humanity, the AG's have come together, laced up, and are going into battle once again.

The original 3 of Pernicia Jaye, Ray Comer III and Aaron Elimelech are back and better than ever. Since their last release in 2012, Ray and Aaron have remained fairly productive, working on tracks collaboratively in the studio. Fed up with the limited sounds and tech from their current recording software, the two decided to upgrade. Oh what a difference new sounds and modules make...after weeks of experimenting and battle testing Reason 11, Ray eventually decides to purchase his own, spawning the same two-headed production monster that created their previous albums. The two instantly began pumping out tracks left and right at a feverish pace. Amongst the tracks created was the instrumental for Night Mood.

The Armchair Generals production process is one of filtration. Many budding ideas come from Aaron, get fine-tuned by Ray and elevated further by Pernicia. In this particular case, the spark came from Ray and a new addition to our unit, writer, Tanisha Pitts.

Once Ray and Aaron felt that they had a worthy batch of tracks, they started sending them to Pernicia. One night, while hanging out with Tanisha, Pernicia decides to listen to the new material. They came across Night Mood and wrote the song in one sitting...

Night Mood embodies much of the signature sound from the Armchair Generals: Deep basses, melodic instrumentation and unexpected genre twists. Ray has been into trap for a while now and knocked back the first half of the track with ease. In a similar fashion to "Let it Go," the track blends genres and shifts to a 4-on-the-floor soulful house cut, giving listeners a happy ending to the journey.

In addition to a writer, the AG's have added some new talented musicians to the roster. Ashanti Dykes is a multi-instrumental talent out of Long Beach and added the smooth, buttery baseline to the house section of the track. Aaron tapped keyboardist, Sara Araya for a Rhodes solo, and she didn't disappoint.

The AG's camp is just getting started and are already hard at work producing the next few releases. The trio's core has been galvanized, putting out the call to former contributors and newly met creatives. The new material will be a nod to the old feeling of "The Lunchbox" while incorporating the accumulated production knowledge and experience since their last release.
